Do you want to have a novel photography experience? Then get yourself a brand new infrared camera and experience the difference in your photography. An infrared camera is also known as a thermo graphic camera sometimes. An infrared camera creates an image using the infrared radiation instead of visible light unlike the common camera. An infrared camera is capable of taking pictures encompassing a wider range of 14,000 nanometer.

Types of Infrared cameras

Cooled Infrared Image Detectors – Most of the modern cooled infrared cameras work in the range of 60K to 100K temperatures. The cooling is mandatory for operating the semiconductor materials used inside the camera. This is why these cooled infrared detectors are contained inside cryogenically cooled covers. However, the temperature range varies depending on the performance and the type of camera. These detectors provide stunning images if the cooling is done properly. However, one disadvantage of using such a camera is that it is expensive. These cameras are large in size but the image quality is superior to the other varieties. Some of the semiconductors used in the camera are lead selenide, indium arsenide, mercury cadmium telluride and indium antimonide.

Uncooled Infrared Detectors – Usually uncooled infrared cameras use a sensor operating at a temperature close to the ambient temperature. The modern uncooled infrared cameras work with the help of sensors changeable by resistance, current and voltage when heated by infrared radiation. These cameras do not require cryogenic coolers and are also smaller in size. This makes them a little cheaper than the cooled ones. The operation of uncooled infrared cameras is mostly based on ferroelectric and pyroelectric materials. The quality of the image is good but inferior to the cooled ones.

The use of infrared cameras

The infrared cameras were originally manufactured for military use during the Korean War. These cameras are extremely effective while shooting in the dark. These are now used extensively in the fields of archaeology and medicine. The infrared cameras are becoming powerful day by day and they have found various other uses in myriad fields. In the present day they are also used in the fields of astronomy, firefighting operations, condition monitoring and surveillance, roof inspection, paranormal investigation and also as flame detectors.

The infrared cameras are available in gadget stores in the market. There are several big shot companies manufacturing infrared cameras like Cannon, Olympus, Sony and many others. You have to select the brand and know your budget to be able to buy an infrared camera. So what are you waiting for? Buy the latest infrared camera for a magical photography experience.

For centuries images have been projected onto surfaces. The camera obscura and the camera lucida were used by artists to trace scenes as early as the 16th century. These early cameras did not fix an image in time; they only projected what passed through an opening in the wall of a darkened room onto a surface. In effect, the entire room was turned into a large pinhole camera. Indeed, the phrase camera obscura literally means “darkened room,” and it is after these darkened rooms that all modern cameras have been named.

The first photograph is considered to be an image produced in 1826 by the French inventor Nicéphore Niépce on a polished pewter plate covered with a petroleum derivative called bitumen of Judea. It was produced with a camera, and required an eight hour exposure in bright sunshine. However this process turned out to be a dead end and Niépce began experimenting with silver compounds based on a Johann Heinrich Schultz discovery in 1724 that a silver and chalk mixture darkens when exposed to light.

Niépce, in Chalon-sur-Saône, and the artist Louis Daguerre, in Paris, refined the existing silver process in a partnership. In 1833 Niépce died of a stroke, leaving his notes to Daguerre. While he had no scientific background, Daguerre made two pivotal contributions to the process.

He discovered that by exposing the silver first to iodine vapour, before exposure to light, and then to mercury fumes after the photograph was taken, a latent image could be formed and made visible. By then bathing the plate in a salt bath the image could be fixed.

In 1839 Daguerre announced that he had invented a process using silver on a copper plate called the Daguerreotype. A similar process is still used today for Polaroids. The French government bought the patent and immediately made it public domain.

Across the English Channel, William Fox Talbot had earlier discovered another means to fix a silver process image but had kept it secret. After reading about Daguerre’s invention Talbot refined his process, so that it might be fast enough to take photographs of people as Daguerre had done and by 1840 he had invented the calotype process.

He coated paper sheets with silver chloride to create an intermediate negative image. Unlike a daguerreotype a calotype negative could be used to reproduce positive prints, like most chemical films do today. Talbot patented this process which greatly limited its adoption.

He spent the rest of his life in lawsuits defending the patent until he gave up on photography altogether. But later this process was refined by George Eastman and is today the basic technology used by chemical film cameras. Hippolyte Bayard also developed a method of photography but delayed announcing it, and so was not recognized as its inventor.

In the darkroomIn 1851 Frederick Scott Archer invented the collodion process. It was the process used by Lewis Carroll.

Slovene Janez Puhar invented the technical procedure for making photographs on glass in 1841. The invention was recognized on July 17th 1852 in Paris by the Académie Nationale Agricole, Manufacturière et Commerciale.

The Daguerreotype proved popular in responding to the demand for portraiture emerging from the middle classes during the Industrial Revolution. This demand, that could not be met in volume and in cost by oil painting, may well have been the push for the development of photography.

However daguerreotypes, while beautiful, were fragile and difficult to copy. A single photograph taken in a portrait studio could cost US$1000 in 2006 dollars. Photographers also encouraged chemists to refine the process of making many copies cheaply, which eventually led them back to Talbot’s process. Ultimately, the modern photographic process came about from a series of refinements and improvements in the first 20 years.

In 1884 George Eastman, of Rochester, New York, developed dry gel on paper, or film, to replace the photographic plate so that a photographer no longer needed to carry boxes of plates and toxic chemicals around. In July of 1888 Eastman’s Kodak camera went on the market with the slogan “You press the button, we do the rest”. Now anyone could take a photograph and leave the complex parts of the process to others. Photography became available for the mass-market in 1901 with the introduction of Kodak Brownie.

Since then color film has become standard, as well as automatic focus and automatic exposure. Digital recording of images is becoming increasingly common, as digital cameras allow instant previews on LCD screens and the resolution of top of the range models has exceeded high quality 35mm film while lower resolution models have become affordable. For the enthusiast photographer processing black and white film, little has changed since the introduction of the 35mm film Leica camera in 1925.

Digital Photography Tutorials On Purchasing Creative Compact Cameras

Creative compact cameras offer a good bit more user control than typical compact digital cameras. Typically you will find that the lenses are bigger, heavier, and of higher optical quality. Also almost all creative compact cameras have the option of saving your images in RAW format, usually proprietary but sometimes in Adobe\’s standard DNG format.

A standard JPEG is convenient for uploading to the Web, sharing with friends, or getting prints. Unfortunately, a lot of shadow and highlight detail that was captured by the sensor can be lost with a standard JPEG.

Using the RAW format, the photographer has the opportunity to bring out that shadow or highlight detail in images by using a graphics editing program (or letting a professional lab do it and make a really great print).

It is important to note that unless you are prepared to spend an evening reading the manual and learning the settings I don\’t recommend you buy one of these cameras. If you don\’t do your homework first your results will be the same as if you had used a simpler compact camera.

Panasonic LX2 (28-110mm F2.8-4.9 image-stabilized Leica lens; good for wide angle). Canon G7. 35-210mm F2.8-4.8 lens; no RAW capability; very bad noise at high ISO Ricoh GR Digital. This has a fixed focal-length 28mm equivalent lens that will be superb for wide-angle scenic photos. It is not clear if this camera is going to be sold in the United States.

This product category seems to have gone out of favor and therefore there isn\’t much to choose from. Camera companies are concentrating their energies on the \”SLR-like\” category (below) and SLR category

Selecting a Camera for Landscape Photography

Chances are you already own the camera you’ll be using to shoot landscapes, but do read this anyway, so you know what to look for when it’s time to upgrade. Unlike the bygone days of film cameras, in which you might have used the same camera for several years, the rapid advances in digital technology and stunning improvements in image quality offered by the latest camera models encourage digital photographers to upgrade every two or three years.

NIKON AND CANON CAMERAS ARE SUPERB!

All digital cameras can produce fine landscape images, but some models are clearly better for landscapes than others. Just for the record, John has used Canon cameras for more than 30 years while Barbara shoots Nikon. You might be surprised to hear we shoot two different systems, but it makes perfect sense to us. We always know our Nikon gear is Barbara’s and Canon items belong to John, so we never get mixed up. This makes things simple, keeps peace in the family, and we each shoot what we like. Effectively teaching over a thousand photo students each year is important to us, too. Thoroughly knowing both the Canon and Nikon systems helps us teach, because the vast majority of our photography students also shoot Canon or Nikon.

Both Canon and Nikon offer superb cameras and wide choices of lenses, including high-quality prime (non-zoom) lenses, tilt-shift lenses that control depth of field and convergence of vertical lines, zoom lenses with image-stabilization, and specialized macro lenses. Canon and Nikon each have cameras with a full-frame sensor that gives the full effect of wide-angle lenses.

OTHER EXCELLENT CAMERA SYSTEMS

Several other companies build digital camera systems and they make fine equipment. The major players include Sigma, Fujifilm, Pentax, Sony, Panasonic, Samsung, and Olympus. Their cameras are perfectly capable of shooting superb landscape images, but their overall systems are considerably smaller than the Canon and Nikon systems, leaving nature photographers with far fewer choices of lenses and accessories.

Basic Digital Photography And The Best Digital Camera To Buy

When thinking of purchasing a digital camera it is easy to become confused when faced with the myriad choices available on the market today. The best way to face this decision is to ask yourself what features or functions of the digital camera are important to you for basic digital photography.

Knowing what your needs are and what types of photographs you wish to take will narrow your choices down considerable. When you begin your search for a digital camera you may be surprised at the variety of cameras, not to mention manufacturers, which are available on the market today.

The varieties you will be faced with include SLR Digital Cameras, Digital Compacts, Film Compacts, Direct Vision, etc. Features available vary anywhere from built in camcorders to camera phones. You will undoubtedly be amazed at the choices available to you when you begin your search.

You can find a lot of help through various web sites which offer reviews and ratings of those cameras that are available but you won\’t find too many reviews out there on Direct Vision Cams or a few other models so I want to focus my attention on them. Direct Vision Cams, manufactured by Leica, are great cameras that will meet nearly everyone’s needs. These cameras offer high quality pictures with very little noise.

Most photographers in basic digital photography use the 35mm camera and Rangefinders have a wonderful one that includes great features. Features include a viewfinder, battery compartment, self-timer, rangefinder, rewind crank, rewind button, lens, PC socket, film speed dial, and so on.

The Rangefinder has a focusing mechanism which allows the photographer to measure the subject distance and take photographs that are in sharp focus. Self-timers are another useful feature when you want to set a delay on when a photo is taken. If you plan on including yourself in a few photos you may want to check into this feature as there are some cameras that only allow a few seconds before a photo is taken.

Features available on some of the direct vision cameras include hot-shoes, shutter speed dial, wind-on levers, frame counters, and shutter release buttons. Depending on your needs there are a variety of features and functions that are available.

More options include Mega-Pixel Camcorders, Large Formatting Cams, Instant Cams, Imaging Phones, and Hasselblad XPans 2, etc. If you plan on purchasing a camera phone you need to understand that the included camera is not necessarily the best for photography even though you should be able to transfer your photos to your computer. Camera phones are great when you are on the road taking photos and want to put them on your computer quickly. Blue tooth phones make it easy to transfer your photos directly to your computer.

Another option is mega-pixel phone camcorders which are great if you want to create web pages or home movies. Unfortunately these produce lower quality videos which takes them out of the running for creating high productions. It is still quite handy for making movies and playing them back. Most are the size of an Ipod which is incredible when you think of the built in features.

Today you will not find too many professional photographers using instant cameras. At one time most professional photographers used the familiar Polaroid camera which was one of the most popular cameras on the market. Since there were no photo developing costs there were quite popular with professional as well as amateur photographers. This factor alone was my primary reason for using Polaroid. Enthusiasts of instant cameras can use Fuji’s Instax camera which has taken the place of Polaroid.

We can\’t forget about Hasselblad which has a 35mm camera that is incredibly popular with professional photographers. This camera easily switches between standard and panorama modes. Hasselblad is one of those cameras that defies history as it puts you in mind of old technology with a modern flair. Hopefully you should have an indication of which cameras are out there and which might meet your needs.

What will you use your camera for in basic digital photography? What are your plans for the photos? Will you want larger or smaller prints? Is it your desire to become a professional photographer or will you be happy to stay in the amateur arena?

A Basic Photography Course For Digital Cameras

This is the question we all ask ourselves when first thinking of purchasing a digital camera. What you need to ask yourself is what are you looking for in a camera?

Once you have decided to move to the digital era you want to decide on which camera will suit your particular needs. There are a variety of types of cameras, not to mention manufacturers, on the market today for you to choose from.

Some of the cameras on the market today include the AF SLR Series, Digital Compacts, Film Compacts, Direct Vision, etc. Cameras include features such as built in camcorders as well as cameras inside phones. It is amazing what you can find on the market today when looking for a digital camera?

There are a variety of articles on the internet about the choices you can have when looking for either film or digital compact cameras so today I want to focus on Direct Vision Cams along with a few other models. If you are new to digital cameras you may want to look at the line of direct vision cameras offered by Leica. Most of the direct vision action cameras offer high quality pictures with very little noise.

The 35mm camera is commonly used by photographers and I want to look at the Range Finders. This model has a variety of features including a viewfinder, battery compartment, self-timer, rangefinder, rewind crank, rewind button, lens, PC socket, film speed dial, and so on.

The rangefinder works by restoring the viewfinders center image which overlays in the camera. If you want to include yourself in the photo self-timers are incredibly useful for delaying when a photo is taken. There are a few cameras that only allow a few seconds before a photo is taken.

Several direct vision cameras offer hot-shoes, shutter speed dial, wind-on levers, frame counters, and shutter release buttons. You will find some of these cameras offer more options than others which are designed more for professional photographers.

Other varieties of cameras include the Mega-Pixel Camcorders, Large Formatting Cams, Instant Cams, Imaging Phones, and Hasselblad XPans 2 and so on. Please recognize that cameras which come included with a mobile phone are not necessarily the best cameras for photography however in most cases you are able to transfer them to your computer. Camera phones are great when you are on the road taking photos and want to put them on your computer quickly. Bluetooth phones are one of the most popular phones on the market today.

Mega-pixel camcorders are perfect for creating web pages and home movies. You will typically have a lower quality of video which takes these types of camcorders off the market for publishing to the internet. Regardless, it is a handy camcorder since you can use it to make movies and play them back. The size is nearly that of an Ipod with a built in camera.

Professional photographers will not automatically head for the instant cameras. Many are familiar with the old Polaroid camera which was, at one time, one of the most popular cameras on the market. Polaroid had several models which were used by professional photographers as there was no photo developing costs. This was the primary reason I used the Polaroid. Today Fuji has an Instax camera which has taken the place of Polaroid.

Hasselblad has a 35mm camera that is popular. The camera was originally designed by Fuji and can easily switch to a panoramic mode of shot. Hasselblad is an incredible camera and puts you in mind of old-modern technology cameras, since it does more than its history defines. By now we have looked at a variety of the cameras available on the market as well as the accessories available and it is now up to you to decide which will best meet your needs.

What kinds of photos are you hoping to take? What do you hope to do with them? Will you want high or low resolution photos? Are you looking to become a professional photographer or stay in the amateur arena?
