With their easy to use format and solid technology, wonders abound int the world of pocket sized cameras. They are designed to take clear, crisp photos with vivid details and colors. People prefer different accessories and opinions differ on photo qualities like the softness of objects. If the camera maker concentrates solely on one are, however, the quality and performance in others tends to suffer. Today we’re bringing you a discussion of three pocket size cameras that you should acquaint yourself with so you’ll have a richer understanding when it’s time to shop.

First we’ll turn our attention to the Casio Exilim Z1050 which has a very small dimensional profile. It was one of the slimmest of its kind and is still competitively ultra-thin. This 10 megapixel digital camera has both style and excellent features for the camera enthusiast. Many users find the ease of use for this camera to be the most desirable feature by far. Not everyone likes to learn everything in the user’s manual. Yes, lots of folks just want a full battery charge and to start taking pics. In addition to a standard 3x zoom this camera offers image stabilization to compensate for shaking hands.

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FH20 is a great option if you’re looking for a point and shoot style camera and don’t need overly powerful zoom. This ultra compact 14.1 megapixel camera comes with a built in flash and LCD. The LCD utilizes a matrix TFT technology. This camera does not have an optical viewfinder so you will use the 2.7 LCD display to frame and review your shots. There is also an optical image stabilization system to compensate for shaking.

Now, let’s take a look at the Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS5. Even with lowered ISO’s, this pocket camera with mega-zoom can produce good pictures. It has a decent complement of features, and overall we think this is a decent alternative to some cameras on the market. This 12.1 megapixel camera produces quality photos with good image sharpness and has an ultra-wide lens. You will be able to exert manual control which does have value. Along with a 25 mm wide angle lens, this camera gets its ultra-zoom due to the 12X optical zoom capacity. Since there is no viewfinder with a megazoom, for good reason, you’ll simply use the 2.7 inch TFT display. And there are a few of the lower end pocket size cameras. Some of these would be great to test out to see how you may like this variety of digital ultra-compacts if you’ve never used one before. You can produce decent quality pictures with these reasonably priced cameras.

Autographs from the kissing sailor on V-J Day, August 14, 1945, signify a special moment in Times Square, New York City. President Harry Truman announced the end of the war and just moments later, Alfred Eisenstaedt and Victor Jorgenson took their famous photographs of a sailor passionately kissing a nurse in a white uniform. Their embracing pose represented the celebratory mood of America.

Eisenstaedt took the photograph at the intersection where Broadway and Seventh Avenue converge, while facing the famous building where the traditional New Year’s ball rises to announce the end of a year and the beginning of a new one. Using his Leica camera, Eisenstaedt took the photograph because of the stark contrast between the sailor’s dark uniform and the nurses white outfit. The photograph became a fabulous success and Eisenstaedt’s eternal legacy.

Equally famous is a photograph of the same scene taken by U.S. Navy journalist Victor Jorgensen. Unlike the Eisenstaedt photograph that is copyright protected, the photograph taken by Jorgensen is in the public domain since it was taken by a federal government employee while on an official assignment.

The identity of the nurse in the picture is believed to be Los Angeles resident Edith Shain, although other women have claimed to be the nurse in the famous pose. Eleven men have laid claim to be the sailor in that famous Times Square pose. The two primary contenders are Carl Muscarello and Glenn E. McDuffie.

Carl Muscarello is a retired officer from the New York Police Department who claims that he kissed numerous women in Times Square on that joyous day. However, Edith Shain is not certain he was the one that kissed her. Carl Muscarello’s autograph has appeared on numerous photographs of the scene in Times Square and occasionally on a check.

The other top contender for the kissing sailor is Glenn Edward McDuffie. McDuffie says that he cocked his wrist at the time of the photograph to give the photographer a better view of the nurse he kissed.
