Pentax Optio A10

Pentax recently unveiled its stylishly innovative Optio A10 digital camera. This lightweight, sleek and stylish camera boasts of an 8.22 megapixel CCD sensor that is coupled with Pentax’s Shake Reduction System technology. This proprietary system from Pentax utilizes two internal gyro sensors to detect camera shake while a dedicated CPU calculates the required correction to compensate for the level of camera shake while focusing. In turn, a proprietary mechanism adjusts the CCD to compensate for the camera shake and deliver sharp images.

Measuring only 3.5 x 2.1 x 0.9 inches and weighing in at a very light 4.4 ounces, this camera has a 3x optical zoom whereby the lenses are constructed from even elements in five groups, including three double-sided aspherical lenses. This new Pentax zoom lens produces clear, high-contrast images. This design corrects effectively for spherical and other aberrations and cuts out ghosting and flare. The new ASIC image processor from Pentax supplies more processing power to this camera compared to all cameras in its class. Because of their new ASIC processor, the A10 attains a higher level of tone reproduction and color correction based on enormous amounts of actual photo data.

Despite its diminutive size, the A10 has a 2.5 LCD screen. The images and menus displayed on the monitor is very easy to look at even in bright locations because of its backlight and low-reflection type. All of this means it is easier to navigate menus, make settings, and compose shots as well as to display crisper, more beautiful images. The camera has a stylish brushed aluminum alloy exterior, whereby the 12-faceted lens ring and the connecter covers are nicely designed to blend well with the cameras exterior look and feel. Despite the style and sophistication of the camera, the Optio A10 is easy to grip and easy to operate. The position of each of the cameras component was well thought off.

The camera has an intuitive mode palette allows quick navigation and selection from the 15 shooting modes and 15 playback modes that are available. The camera uses a translucent display that superimposes icons over the LCD monitor image to make the icons easy discernable. This makes framing the subject while choosing modes much easier.

Despite its small size, the camera boasts of a 30fps video at 640 x 480 pixels. Surprisingly enough, the quality of the video clips rival that of a lot of camcorders in the market. Because the Optio A10 records videos on DivX MPEG-4 movie format, it can record longer, higher-quality videos compared to a lot of cameras in its class.

The people from Pentax arguably has a clear winner of a camera with the A10 that can rival or even best the current top rated slim DSCs competing in the ultra-compact category.
