Fujifilm FinePix S100FS unveiled at midnight (Digital Camera Review)
Fujifilm disclosed a new addition to its S series with the top-of-the-line FinePix S100FS (film simulation). Touted as Fuji’s most advanced digital camera to date, the 11 megapixel, 14.3x zoom S100FS is an SLR-like shooting tool that brings manual controls and other advanced features to users looking for more functionality and flexibility.

The third release in Fujifilm’s trifecta of new ultra-zooms, the FinePix S8100fd’s main attraction is its 18x zoom with wide-angle shooting capability. Combining full manual and advanced automatic features, Fuji promotes the S8100fd as a DSLR substitute, and with a range that covers an equivalent 27 to 486 mm, we’re inclined to see the cost advantages (have you priced the three DSLR lenses you’d need to cover this kind of distance?), at least, of this proposition.

Hyphenated, hyperbolic marketing copy abounds with the release of Fujifilm’s Z10fd update, the FinePix Z20fd: it’s “style-savvy” and “ultra-glam.” Basically a light retouching of the Z10 concept, the 10 megapixel Z20fd gets an upgrade in resolution but offers many of the same basic physical specs as its predecessor including signature Fuji Z styling in outlandish colors.

Not to be outdone by Fuji’s barrage of ultra-zoom announcements, the 12 megapixel Fujifilm FinePix F100fd is the latest iteration in the company’s F series of advanced compact digicams. Built around an eigth-generation Fuji Super CCD sensor, the F100fd is expected to deliver the kind of impressive low light/high ISO performance that users have come to expect from these cameras. Other physical specs include a 2.7-inch, 230,000-pixel wide-angle view LCD, as well as a Fujinon 5x optical zoom.

Coming on the heels of Pentax’s K20D announcement and in light of a pre-release leak on a Norwegian website several weeks ago, Samsung’s release of their latest GX-20 14.6 megapixel DSLR yesterday is hardly breaking news. As with its technological twin, the GX-20 is a 14.6 megapixel camera with a Samsung-manufactured CMOS sensor, a live view system, and weather/dust sealing.
