Canon may stop development of new film cameras
The demand for [tag]film cameras[/tag] has been shrinking these past couple of years, due mostly to the increasing popularity of digital cameras. With the ever increasing models of easy-to-use digital cameras that can take and store pictures without film, camera manufacturers have begun to re-think their business strategy – and one of the biggest camera manufacturers has begun to move in a more digital direction.
Canon announced today that it is considering to halt the research and development for film cameras as the company is agressively shifting its camera business and is focusing its resources on digital camera technology. A spokesman for the world’s largest digital camera maker said today that Canon “would consider” on whether it still needs to continue development of compact and SLR film camera models because the market for film cameras is increasingly decreasing. However, the camera giant said that it would still continue to manufacture, sell and support existing models of its film cameras and would make a final judgment on whether or not to discontinue the development of new film cameras in the future while it monitors market demands.
This statment of Canon follows the suit of one of its rivals: Nikon. Earlier this year, Nikon announced that would cease production on all of of its film cameras except for a few professional models.
On a related note, a well known camera maker has announced recently that it is exiting from the camera and photographic film markets. Konica Minolta Holdings said that it is withdrawing from the market because it is loosing money from this business due to poor sales figures and due to stiff competition. No announcement has been made on whether or not they are also withdrawing their support for their camera products.
With these recent developments, the speedy demise of film cameras in the world of photography would accelerate even further. This news would most certainly be greeted with sadness from the supporters of these two camera giants.

If a designer really must, then it is only temporary and 3 weeks will no longer be deemed temporary.
