Shooting in the Rain

Frog in Pond

Rain evokes a number of emotions and feelings from human beings. May it be sadness, rebirth or elation for children whose thoughts of another day at school changes from routine to gladness when the weatherman declares a typhoon resulting in the cancellation of classes for the day, the sense of what rain brings to us varies from individual to individual, a menagerie of thoughts and ideas come in to play in our minds when the first droplets hit the lush leaves of the tree outside of our window. As with our feelings and emotions, rain also brings unique opportunities for photography.

SanDisk’s New 4GB SDHC memory card

If the 2GB SD drive is not enough for your digital image storage needs, then this news may make your day. SanDisk has recently introduced a 4 gigabyte SD High Capacity (SDHC) card. According to SanDisk, the SDHC format would be able to support capacities from 4GB to a whooping 32GB. The new SDHC card is rated as Class 2 in performance. To make the product more attractive to users, SanDisk is bundling a MicroMate USB 2.0 reader with the card at no extra cost. The Micromate USB 2.0 reader works with SD and SDHC cards. However, there’s a catch – even if the SD and SDHC card is identical in size and shape, only SDHC compatible products will be able to accept the new SDHC card of SanDisk. The SRP of the card is at US$ 200.

FinePix S6000FD – A DSLR for Faces

FinePix S600FD

Ready for a DSLR that can detect faces? If you are, then here’s good news for you. FujiFilm has recently anncounced their newest entry to DSLR market: the FinePix S600FD. What distiguishes this digital SLR from its bracket competities is it’s Face Detection Technology (FDT).

FDT is the newest component to FujiFilm’s Real Photo Technology. FDT does exactly what it implies: it detects faces. According to FujiFilm, FDT can detect up to ten human faces, regardless of their position on the shot/scene. The camera, with the aid of FDT, prioritizes the faces then adjusts the focus and exposure automatically so the intenedd subject is at it sharpest, clearest and exposed in the most flattetring of manners. If the photographer doesn’t want to use FDT, it can be turned off by a touch of an easy to access button.

According to FujiFilm, FDT is a perfect complement to other components of their Rea Photo Technology, particulary their i-Flash system. FDT complements i-Flash – after FDT identifies faces and sets the proper focus and exposire, i-Flash would automatically adjust flash intensity, depending on the conditions of the scene. FuJiFilm says the end resilt would be a more life-like pictures of people with natural tones and finer detail.

FuJiFilm would be releasing the FinePix S6000FD by September 2006 and it is expected to retail at US$499-500.

The Drama of Movement

Market market

The camera can seemingly produce miracles, stopping the wingbeats of an insect or a speeding bullet with a flash of light. Movement can be recorded in its many forms, the explosive energy of the athlete, or the rhythmic swaying of a group of dancers, or even the blurring of an image to convey speed or other special effects can be just as powerful. Shutter speed is the main ingredient in successful action photography. Exposures can be adjusted so that the shutter speed is fast enough to capture any rapidly moving object.
