Three new cameras and a replacement broaden the range of offerings in Nikon’s S line, which offers solid features, imposing styling, and impressive image quality, but has yet to really vie for dominance with the strongest competitors in the ultra-compact market. All four new models bring more advanced features to the table, including large, sharp LCDs, improved high ISO performance, Nikkor optics, and in several cases, Optical Vibration Reduction.

Panasonic gets official with PMA camera lineup (Digital Photography News)

January 30, 2008 by Kameraderie · Leave a Comment

Panasonic didn’t exactly do the best job keeping its PMA camera lineup a secret before things got official, but it looks like it’s finally gotten its act together and it’s now loose pictures details on the whole lot of them. As expected, those include new entries in the company’s LZ, FS and TZ-series as well as, perhaps most notably, the FX35 (that’s the tiny one up above), which is the first Lumix with a 25mm wide-angle lens. Hit up the appropriate read links below for the official word on each camera from Panasonic, or just head on over after the break for a rundown of the key specs.

Eye-Fi Wireless SD Card Review (Digital Camera Review)

January 29, 2008 by Kameraderie · Leave a Comment

Wireless image transfer has been gaining interest and popularity by leaps and bounds in the past year. At CES earlier this month, we reported on several manufacturers who are looking to get in to the built-in wireless transfer game, allowing users to send photos straight from their cameras to their computers or web-based photo sharing services. In the aftermarket, however, the Eye-Fi Wireless SD Card promises similar functionality for any camera that shoots JPEGs and supports SD memory - allowing shooters to transfer their images instantaneously from camera to computer or web over their home Wi-Fi network.

Coming on the heels of Pentax’s K20D announcement and in light of a pre-release leak on a Norwegian website several weeks ago, Samsung’s release of their latest GX-20 14.6 megapixel DSLR yesterday is hardly breaking news. • Nikon D60 DSLR press release leaked (Digital Photography News)

    January 29, 2008 by Kameraderie · Leave a Comment

Well folks, that Nikon D60 DSLR we’d heard whispers about way back in the crazy, carefree days of December 2007 appears to be on the verge of coming to light at this year’s PMAs. Digital Photography Review has gotten a leaked press release from the company concerning the new shooter, and now we’ve got a sheet of specs to backup the rumors. It looks like the 10.2-megapixel camera will be sporting a number of improvements, including a 0.19-second power-up, continuous shooting mode at three frames per second, Nikon’s 3D Color Matrix Metering II, compatibility with AF-S and AF-I Nikkor lenses, RAW image handling, in-camera retouching capabilities, and a slew of other, incredibly technical functions that the true camera-geek will surely salivate over. Our suggestion? Hit the read link, and take your good old time poring over the details.
