  • Sony about to release another YouTube-centric camcorder? (Digital Photography News)

    September 28, 2007 by Kameraderie · Leave a Comment

We’ve already seen Sony’s first shameless attempt to court the YouTube crowd with the NSC-GC1 5 megapixel web-corder, but a quick look through the instruction manual reveals specs for another model, the NSC-GC3, which apparently cuts shooting time down from 2 hours to just 29 minutes. We’re not certain if that’s because of higher resolution or less memory, but either way, expect the GC3 to make an appearance soon.

Camera Tips and Tricks - How To : Convert to a Model Look

    September 27, 2007 by Kameraderie · Leave a Comment

Ever wanted to convert a holiday snap or stunning foreign vista into a picture that looks like a model? No me neither. But in case you hanker after model railway shots or have an odd hour to fill you too can play with photoshop to create just that type of image.

Receding Hairline: the website of a London Wannabe supplied all the instructions and tips on how to go about just such a task. It seems you need Photoshop CS or newer (I haven’t tried this out myself so can’t comment). Just three steps are required - gradient mask, lens blur, and adjust curves. And thats it! Selecting the right photography is important though as Receding Hairline explains.

Pure Digital announces million camcorder giveaway for non-profits (Digital Photography News)

    September 27, 2007 by Kameraderie · Leave a Comment

At under $200, Pure Digital’s recently announced Flip Video camcorders are already pretty inexpensive, but the company now looks to be trying to make them even cheaper for non-profit organizations — as in free. That’s the goal of the company’s just announced Flip Video Spotlight program, which aims to give up to one million of the camcorders to non-profits and other non-governmental organizations over the next five years. Apparently, the initiative (which is set to get underway this December) will operate as a donor matching program, with donors (or the organizations themselves) able to purchase so-called Flip Video Spotlight Kits, which Flip Video will match one-to-one. Much like the OLPC program, Flip Video sees virtually no end to the benefits of its camcorders, with Pure Digital CEO Jonathan Kaplan saying the company believes “video can help change the world.”

Before the advent of affordable digital SLRs, prosumer/enthusiast point and shoot (P&S) digital cameras were the driving force behind the exponential expansion of the digital imaging revolution. Canon digital cameras have been at the forefront of that high tech surge since the introduction of the iconic Powershot G1 in 2000. Canon s “G” models have always been aimed squarely at demanding photographers who want a responsive and relatively compact general-use digital camera with SLR like performance. The new Canon Powershot G9 is the sort of elegant, very capable, and completely self-contained imaging tool that Henri Cartier-Bresson (if he were still with us) might have used to capture the “decisive moments” of the 21st century.

The just introduced Canon Powershot G9 is Canon’s flagship point & shoot digital camera. Like the iconic Leica CL/Minolta CLE film cameras of the seventies, Canon’s “G” series digital cameras are elegant, relatively compact, and completely self-contained imaging tools capable of producing professional quality images. The new G9 features 12 megapixel resolution, the DIGIC III processor, a bright 3.0 inch LCD screen (and an optical viewfinder), an excellent 6X optical zoom, optical image stabilization, improved Face Detection AF, a dedicated hot shoe for Canon Speedlites, and improved ergonomics.
