  • Aluratek’s 10.5-inch ADMPF110 digiframe does HD movies, too (Digital Photography News)

Since the medium-sized digiframe market is getting so crowded these days, it’s leaving manufacturers with little choice but to spruce up their offerings or get left in the crowd. Thankfully for us all, Aluratek has decided to bolster its stance by throwing down a 10.5-inch digital photo frame that not only sports a sleek, classy design, but also ups the ante in the specs department. The 1,024 x 768 resolution seen here has definitely made an appearance on another (albeit larger) frame before, but it touts 256MB of built-in memory, USB 2.0, compatibility with CF, MS, SD, MMC, and xD flash cards, and support for JPEG, Motion JPEG, AVI, and MP3 file formats. Additionally, a bundled wireless remote allows you to control the still / video slideshows from afar, and the audio output enables users to crank things on the home stereo whilst utilizing the integrated display. Best of all, the pricetag isn’t one to balk at, as the $199 Aluratek is asking for here isn’t too greedy at all when compared to the (mostly lacking) competition.

When Pentax introduced the Optio A20 in August 2006, they called it the flagship of the Optio digital camera line . Don t look now, mates, but the admiral has just transferred his flag. Pentax still shows the A20 on their website, but the Pentax Optio A30 is clearly an improved A20. Are the improvements enough to warrant A20 shooters jumping ship to the A30? After spending some time with the A30 I can say it produces some seriously see-worthy images.

  • Camera Tips and Tricks - How To : Convert to a Model Look

    April 27, 2007 by Kameraderie · Leave a Comment

Ever wanted to convert a holiday snap or stunning foreign vista into a picture that looks like a model? No me neither. But in case you hanker after model railway shots or have an odd hour to fill you too can play with photoshop to create just that type of image.

Receding Hairline: the website of a London Wannabe supplied all the instructions and tips on how to go about just such a task. It seems you need Photoshop CS or newer (I haven’t tried this out myself so can’t comment). Just three steps are required - gradient mask, lens blur, and adjust curves. And thats it! Selecting the right photography is important though as Receding Hairline explains.

Vision Research’s Miro 3 snaps 2200 frames-per-second (Digital Photography News)

    April 27, 2007 by Kameraderie · Leave a Comment

We’ve seen cameras with megapixel numbers that defy logic, and while Vision Research’s latest camera doesn’t quite do one million frames-per-second, it holds its own in the fast-snappin’ game. The first member of the Phantom lineup, dubbed the Miro 3, is a lightweight, rugged device “targeted at industrial applications ranging from biometric research to automotive crash testing.” Essentially, this little bundle of joy is meant to be strapped into daredevil-type situations in order to grab as many photos as possible within a split second, as it can programmed to snap 2,200 frames-per-second at 512 x 512 resolution, or up to 95,000 fps if you only need 32 x 32 images. It touts shutter speeds as low as two-microseconds, an ISO rating of up to 4,800 in monochrome, selectable 8-, 10- or 12-bit pixel depths, and a “number of external control signals allowing for external triggering, camera synchronization, and time-stamping.” The Miro 3 looks to be available right now, but unless you need to capture stills of your next stunt, we wouldn’t bother inquiring about the (presumably lofty) price.
