BenQ intros T700 compact digicam (Digital Photography News)
March 31, 2007 by Kameraderie · Leave a Comment
BenQ may have its troubles these days, but that hasn’t stopped ‘em from churning out its usual variety of products, one of the latest of which is its new 7 megapixel T700 compact digital camera. Measuring just a sliver under 15 mm thick, the cam boasts a sizeable 3-inch touchscreen display that takes up the majority of space on its backside, along with a 3x optical zoom, BenQ’s “Super Shake Free” mode, and 18MB of internal storage with an SD slot providing some much-needed expansion options. You’ll also be able to snag this one in your choice of four colors (black, white, sliver, and red), with each now available (in Taiwan) for the local equivalent of $333.

Camera Tips and Tricks - Digital Holga mod
March 30, 2007 by Kameraderie · Leave a Comment
, How-to’s
As I was browsing through the DPGuru Flickr pool looking for a photo of the day, I came across the image to the right. I put it on my “further consideration” list, scanned down quickly to see whither it had embedded EXIF, said to myself “oh, that’s nice, he’s using a Canon Holga,” and moved on. You can tell I hadn’t had my coffee yet; it took about 45 seconds before I sat straight up in my chair, said “waiddaminute, an EOS what?!?” and clicked back.
It turns out Joachim Guanzon had the bright idea to mount a Holga lens on his 20D. He even put the directions online so the rest of can do the same. The Holga lens gets destroyed in the process, but it’s probably $19.99 well spent. The real stroke of genius, as far as I’m concerned, was using a white film canister for the lens tube so you get that authentic Holga light light bleed.

Panasonic’s two 3CCD HD camcoders announced for US (Digital Photography News)

, HDTV
Finally joining a party already attended by big names such as Sony, Canon, and Sanyo, Panasonic has announced that its first two consumer HD camcorders — which we initially spotted back in November — are set for an impending US release. Since you all have memories like a steel trap, we’re sure you’ll recall that both the HDC-SD1 (pictured) and HDC-DX1 share almost exactly the same feature set — 1080i video capture, 2.1 megapixel stills, 12x optical zoom with optical image stabilization, five built-in mics, and those three image sensors — with the only difference being that the former records to SDHC cards while the latter writes to dual-layer DVDs. Best of all — and unlike their Japanese counterparts — both the SD1 and DX1 will be priced exactly the same: $1,300 when they hit shelves in the next few days.

Digital Camera News: DigitalCameraReview.com On Internet Radio, Sandisk Rolls Out 8GB SDHC Card (Digital Camera Review)
March 29, 2007 by Kameraderie · Leave a Comment
Canon and Nikon currently dominate the semi-pro dSLR market, but all any camera maker has to do to unseat the sales leaders is to offer a better product at a lower price. The introduction of the Pentax K10D is a big step in that direction. The K10D offers several unique benefits the majors can’t match including image stabilization with every lens, pro quality dust/weather/moisture seals, two RAW formats, and an automatic dust reduction/removal system - all at a very competitive price. Read on for our full review.

Camera Tips and Tricks - Hack: Disposable to Reuseable
March 27, 2007 by Kameraderie · Leave a Comment
, How-to’s
I have little exposure to disposable cameras; so the brands RitzCamera, CVS and Walgreens mean absolutely nothing. Apparently though you can take these cheapy little fillies and dispose of the disposable moniker and make them reusable.
TopTenDigitalCamera supplies all the details - from which connections to make through to where to download the software to turn “a disposable 10 dollar digital camera from RitzCamera, CVS, or Walgreens into one you can use over and over, just like a normal digital camera”. I just wonder though if all the trouble is actually worthwhile. The images, such as the one to the right, seem reasonable enough though.
