Casio announces latest EXILIMs, the EX-Z6 and EX-Z7 (Digital Photography News)

October 31, 2006 by Kameraderie · Leave a Comment

Well, Casio’s gotten all sneaky on us here, releasing two new updates to the EXILIM Z-series with nary a word on the specs. The EX-Z6, from what we’ve been able to gather, comes with a 6 megapixel resolution, a 2.5-inch screen, a 3x optical zoom, and anti-shake DSP. Its big bro, the EX-Z7 (pictured) comes in at 7.2 megapixels with the same zoom lens and screen size. The pair appear to be a bump from the previous Exilim EX-Z5 that we peeped back in May. Sadly, we’re lacking anything further in the details department, including pricing and availability, but hopefully we’ll come across that intel sooner rather than later. While you’re twiddling your thumbs waiting, pop on over to the next page for a glance at the Z6.

  • Camera Tips and Tricks - Hack: Disposable to Reuseable

    October 30, 2006 by Kameraderie · Leave a Comment

, How-to’sI have little exposure to disposable cameras; so the brands RitzCamera, CVS and Walgreens mean absolutely nothing. Apparently though you can take these cheapy little fillies and dispose of the disposable moniker and make them reusable.

TopTenDigitalCamera supplies all the details - from which connections to make through to where to download the software to turn “a disposable 10 dollar digital camera from RitzCamera, CVS, or Walgreens into one you can use over and over, just like a normal digital camera”. I just wonder though if all the trouble is actually worthwhile. The images, such as the one to the right, seem reasonable enough though.

The Kodak Easyshare V705 is a pretty straightforward upgrade to the V570. The most significant change between the two is that the V705 captures 7.1 megapixels of resolution vs. the 5 megapixels that the V570 captured. Other than that, the V705 looks the same (except that it s also available in silver and pink), is about the same size, and performs about the same as the V570.

  • The case of the vanished iSight indicator (Digital Photography News)

    October 28, 2006 by Kameraderie · Leave a Comment

    , Laptops

As some of our more astute and early-adopting readers have pointed out, new MacBook Pros have achieved another delectably admissible landmark in the stylish machine’s symmetrical form. The iSight indicator — the green LED that lets you know when your integrated camera is activated — has now been integrated directly into the bezel. No more visible dot in the aluminum to constantly distract you from absolutely nothing; trust us, it’s there underneath. Besides, it’s not like Apple really wants to surreptitiously watch you read Engadget all day anyway.
