Camera Tips and Tricks - Readers Photo Blog #2 - Happy Designs
August 30, 2006 by Kameraderie · Leave a Comment
Equipment is a Canon Powershot A95 with a 0.7 wide angle lens and a 1.75 teleconverter. The snowflake is good, as is the flower at night pic but - and I seem to be in an abstract-liking phase at the moment my favourite image is this one of a sports floor. Many of Webbie’s comments made me laugh…
Graced today by a clear and startling image of a peacock Happy Designs is maintained by Webbie Bud. He describes himself not as a photographer but as a guy with a camera “There’s a difference’ he says. Going digital in 2003 Webbie has taken “tens of thousands of shots (enjoying the freedom of not paying and waiting for film processing) of life and stuff in and around Victoria, BC about as far west on the west coast of Canada as you can get without falling into the Pacific” but only has 100 images so far on his photo-blog.

Ricoh Caplio 500SE Model W rocks WiFi and Bluetooth (Digital Photography News)
August 30, 2006 by Kameraderie · Leave a Comment
, Wireless
If you’re looking for the perfect camera to take on your next vacation to the Amazon rainforest or Sahara desert, look no further than Ricoh’s upcoming Caplio 500SE; like the 500G that preceded it, this 8 megapixel ruggedized shooter also sports a water-, shock-, and dust-resistant casing, but throws in some sweet wireless action to offload your pics no matter where you are. The high end Model W not only features a WEP- and WAP-secured WiFi radio like several other products on the market, but is one of the first imaging devices to also include Bluetooth 2.0 in the mix. No hotspot? No problem — just transfer the pics over to your smartphone and release them onto the Internet wherever a cellular connection is available. Besides the dual radios, you’re getting a 3x optical zoom, 2.5-inch LCD, 26MB of internal memory (enhanced via SD), and rather underwhelming QVGA video capture that may not even include sound. Still, this is a hell of a package (both in terms of its feature set and its weight: 482 grams fully loaded) with a price to match — 130,200 ($1,100) for the Model W and 115,500 ($990) for the WiFi-less Model B when they ship sometime this winter and September 1st, respectively.

Sigma teases SD14 DSLR (Digital Photography News)
August 30, 2006 by Kameraderie · Leave a Comment
We’ve gotta hand it to Sigma, with other companies announcing a slew of digital cameras in advance of Photokina, it’s holding out and unveiling its new DSLR, the SD14, at the show itself. Of course, they’re still doing their best to build anticipation with a trying-to-be-mysterious teaser site that taunts us with such penetrating dialogue as “you believe that all RAW data is created equal?” and “if you could have fundamentally better technology, would you settle for added, improved functions instead?” We’ll leave you to ponder that for a minute, but rest assured, “the truth will soon be revealed.” It also looks like the truth has been leaked, as evidenced by the pic after the break that cropped up Xitek.com’s discussion forum, although it seems we’ll still have to wait for the big unveiling at Photokina to get all the camera’s deets.
